There is something special, mystical and very traditional about keeping bees. There is an ancient custom about talking to your bees, possibly derived from the old Aegean notion that bees were a bridge to the afterlife. This in itself would be a good reason to keep them but add to that honey, beeswax and the benefit of tens of thousands of busy pollinators working on the smallholding and they definitely earn their place.
